Booking mistakes we all should avoid

Booking a hotel seems like an easy thing to do, but there are a few mistakes that we’ve all been guilty of. So today on our blog we will talk about them and teach you how not to make them.

Entering  wrong arrival or departure dates

It is a simple mistake to avoid yet way too common, especially when we book our trips last minute. Often it is because there are different date formats in different countries. So in order not to be in trouble later make sure you check what date formats look like on the websites you book at and fill in the brackets the right way.

Paying with cash

Many believe that paying with cash is the best way to go, but it is actually a waste of possibilities that paying with the credit card can give you. Credit cards offer plenty of special rewards such as airline miles, free night stays, or additional bonuses. Also, they offer certain guarantees such as fraud protection or immediate refunds for wrong charges. So next time you book your stay (especially when it is longer than one or two nights) or your flight make sure to pay with that credit card and collect the benefits!

Not securing yourself

While many of us rather pay less and therefore choose the nonrefundable rates, it is better to spend a little more and be secure in case of any changes. Life happens and sometimes we have to cancel or reschedule our trips, it is better not to lose all of our money rather than save a few dollars.

Not listening to other travellers

In the last years, reviews have become incredibly popular on the Internet. A common mistake people make is simply… ignoring them. Before you choose where to stay or what to do do a quick search and read what other travellers have to say about it, it can save you a lot of time, money and most importantly nerves!

Choosing wrong time of the week to book

Usually, the airlines and hotels raise their prices on the weekends. While it is understandable that it is the time when we all have some time away from work it is much better to make your bookings mid-week, especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Booking too early or too late

The same goes to how early on (or how late) do we book our trip. It is said that in order to get the lowest fares you should book 45 days before the trip for domestic travel and 60 days for international. You can also get some great deal if you book last minute!

Booking via wrong websites

That is a very common mistake. There are many websites where you can make your bookings, but not all of them offer equally good deals. You can get a lot of additional benefits if you book via hotels’ websites or the OTAs that do not charge enormous commissions. offers deals that are always guaranteed to be better than those of other big OTAs, so don’t overpay and chose the best possible offer!
Make sure you remember about all that next time you book a trip and save money for whatever your heart desires!
