The hidden treasure of Greece

Most tourists visiting Greece choose Athens or one of the islands. Few are looking for alternatives. By doing so, they lose the opportunity to discover such extraordinary places as Halkidiki. This peninsula on the northern Aegean coast is one of the most beautiful parts of Greece, and an ideal alternative to the usual tourist destinations. According to legend, it was here that the Titans lived – the rivals of the gods. The history of this place begins about 600,000 years ago. By choosing it you can not only enjoy the extraordinary scenery but also avoid the crowds.

It is actually a peninsula with three small peninsulas, known as the three legs of Halkidiki Greece. The first leg is Kassandra, the second Sithonia, and the third is Mount Athos. Discovering all three of them is the perfect way to spend your holidays.

Sithonia is the middle peninsula famous for its mountainous terrain and colorful beaches with azure water. Thanks to its beauty the whole peninsula is often called the “Greek Caribbean”. For many, it is the most spectacular part of Halkidiki.

Kassandra is the first and most commercialized part of Halkidiki. It houses a myriad of hotels, resorts, and restaurants. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, although due to its less mountainous terrain they are not as spectacular as the beaches of Sithonia. There are, however, many places perfect for relaxation after a long day of discovering the peninsula.

Mount Athos is one of Greece’s most interesting and mysterious places. For over 1,000 years, there has been the community of Monks in this area, which can not be entered by women! Monks do not even have female animals! There are 20 monasteries on the slopes of the mountain and numerous hermits. Mount Athos monumentally strikes the sky straight from the sea reaching as high as 2033 m. You can take a cruise from Cape Sithonia and swim around it to admire its beauty.

One of the very interesting places of Halkidiki is the Petralona Cave. It is one of the oldest human habitats. The remains of a preneander man dating back over 700,000 years have been found in the cave! In addition, the cave is beautified by numerous stalagmites and stalactites of many colors.

Halkidiki is a very special place on the map of Europe, and definitely one worth visiting. And if you’re looking for a perfect place to stay while you’re there the wonderful Hotel Magdalena is simply the perfect choice.

So pack your bags and discover this amazing place!
