Los Angeles – a guide to the City of Angels

The City of Angels is definitely one of the most extraordinary locations in the USA.

While many people discredit it by saying it is too crowded, with never-ending traffic (on some days it is actually true) and too hot to function (sometimes that can also be true), it is important not to forget about all the amazing sides of LA that make it more than worthy to be on your bucket list!

Some basic facts

  • Los Angeles is the most populous city in California and the second most populous city in the United States.
  • It covers an area of 1302 km².
  • The location of Los Angeles is extremely attractive, providing access to the Pacific Ocean and hilly terrain.
  • The area of the city is considered to be the most ethnically diverse American city.
  • The city is divided into 80 districts and settlements.

The City of Los Angeles vs the Los Angeles County

Los Angeles is the county seat of the Los Angeles County. Throughout the history, the boundaries of the city have become quite a complicated matter. Many cities that are entirely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles are actually independent municipalities and not districts of the city. Perfect examples are Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, often considered a part of the city while in fact, they are only a part of the Los Angeles County. This knowledge is especially useful if you are planning on moving there since those cities have their own authorities, offices, schools, and even the police.

One of the districts of the city and the most important center of American cinematography. In 1910, Hollywood was officially incorporated into Los Angeles, and soon thereafter the film industry began to develop there. The word “Hollywood” is used as a short name for the American film and television industry, regardless of the location of filming. It is often referred to as the “World’s Entertainment Capital.”

That’s why while in Hollywood, besides obviously the famous Hollywood sign, you have to visit one other location – the Walk of Fame.

Walk of Fame – is a walk along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, featuring more than 2,600 five-pointed stars commemorating celebrities in the show business as well as a few fictional characters. The first 8 stars were awarded on February 9th, 1960. The stars are awarded by the Chamber of Commerce in five categories: Motion Pictures, Television, Recording, Live Theater / Live performance and Radio.

Universal Studios

While it is not a part of the city but of the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, while talking about Hollywood we have to mention the famous Universal Studios. It is one of the oldest and most famous Hollywood film studios still in use and a theme park, where you can see attractions from movie and TV hits of the last several decades. The park constantly incorporates new attractions into its area. It is definitely a place for everybody, from children to adults!

The district, located in the Westside region of the city is known for its waterways, beaches and the Ocean Front Walk, a two and a half mile exclusive pedestrian promenade, with hundreds of artists, such as musicians and painters. A very fun part of the Venice Beach is the famous skate park, where you can observe many talented skaters and take some amazing pictures.
