Amsterdam is a capital of the Netherlands and one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. From world famous museums through many wonderful sights to fantastic restaurants and vibrant nightlife, Amsterdam is a must-see destination from the old continent.
To give you a better look at just how wonderful it is here are just a few of the things you can do in this lovely city.
Ride a bike
Obviously. You can’t go to Amsterdam and not go on a bike tour around the city. There are not only many shops where you can rent a bike of your dreams but also many guided bike tours to choose from. Since the Netherlands is known for a little traffic thanks to the citizens’ love for bikes, you will definitely enjoy your trip and see many wonders of the city while feeling like a local!
Have a picnic in the Vondelpark
When you’re done cycling you can have a nice mid-day snack in the largest park of the city – Vondelpark. This place is perfect for relaxing and having a lovely time. Not only is it the biggest green area of the city but it is also one of the most popular places for the people of Amsterdam to gather for a meal or a drink with friends and family. It also is a home to many gorgeous sculptures, including one by Picasso.
Get lost in the city’s Canal Belt
With 165 canals all around the city getting lost doesn’t sound so abstract. But what a wonderful way to get lost it is. In 2010 Amsterdam’s canal ring was even recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. Definitely a must-see while you’re in the city. You can even go on a boat-tour to get a new perspective, or enjoy a hop-on hop-off trips to have the best of both worlds. And try seeing the canals at night, as many of the bridges light up after dark.
Go on a guided tour
Amsterdam has tons of beautiful sights you can get to on foot and many walking tours you can join to learn more about them. But whether you decide to get a guide or not, definitely stroll through the narrow streets of this charming city. So put on comfy shoes and visit the arty district of Jordaan, see the oldest building of the city – Oude Kerk (Old Church) or admire the beautiful Westerkerk. Wherever you go you will not be disappointed!
Visit a museum
Amsterdam is known for its museums, so your stay wouldn’t be complete without visiting at least one one them. Learn more about the city’s history in the Amsterdam Museum, get a glimpse of in in one of the photography museums, or learn more about one of the city’s greatest artist in the Rembrandt House Museum. Everybody can find something for themselves.
Eat street food
No trip would be complete without some good food, and Amsterdam has plenty of that to offer. The city is best known for the fish stands, and you simply can’t leave it without trying raw herring, especially delicious between May and July. City has also many wonderful restaurants with delicious food that no one can resist. So let yourself indulge and bon appetit!
